What We Do
We create the conditions for policy innovation that support a just and efficient transition to sustainable energy.
We envision an equitable energy system that optimizes productivity through smart demand, sustainable supply, and compensated externalities.
We support Penn research through a variety of programs and bring distinguished and diverse energy leaders and scholars to Penn for visits and residencies.
We encourage students from across disciplines to participate in our energy courses and professional development programs, and we connect them to key resources.
Convene Today’s Experts
We gather thought leaders with diverse backgrounds and interests for productive conversations that tackle the world’s most urgent energy challenges.
Our research agenda is a key to our identity—it guides our projects, events, courses, and written work. We support research that:
- Addresses timely challenges
- Attracts and engages critical stakeholders
- Is informed or impacted by the work of the University of Pennsylvania
- Builds a diverse portfolio—geographically or by energy sector
The Kleinman Center for Energy Policy was established in July 2014 with a generous $10 million gift to the University of Pennsylvania Stuart Weitzman School of Design from Scott (C’94 and W’94) and Wendy Kleinman. In 2019, we received an anonymous $30 million gift that established our endowment fund. This fund since has benefited from the generosity of many Penn alumni donors.
