Expert Voices: Urban Policy & Presidential Elections

What are the nation’s most pressing challenges and how can we solve them? Presidential candidates have the opportunity to discuss this question every day on the campaign trail. The Institute for Urban Research turned to its thought leaders and asked the same question. Among them was Kleinman Center faculty director Mark Alan Hughes.

In a series of short essays, Penn experts share insights into which major urban policy issues today’s candidates should address. 

From incarceration to infrastructure to education access, it is clear that cities face enormous and complex challenges in the 21st century, and that federal policies can have a significant impact on the ability of cities to create programs and allocate funding.
