Grid Decarbonization, Reliability, and the Role of Wholesale Power Markets
Event Summary
The 2023 North American Electricity Reliability Corporation (NERC) “Reliability Risk Priorities” report identified several “significant evolving and interdependent risks” to grid reliability. With proposed EPA regulations to limit power sector emissions, electrification targets, and greater deployment of distributed resources, how are state and federal climate policies considering grid reliability? How are wholesale power market designs evolving to address these challenges? What is still needed?
