Agriculture
Agriculture is at the forefront of global challenges. We explore sustainable agriculture practices through the lens of energy policy.
The Sustainable Agriculture Fund
The Goldsmith Sustainable Agriculture Fund at the Kleinman Center for Energy Policy, supported by a generous gift from alumnus Carl H. Goldsmith (W’88), is dedicated to advancing research at the intersection of energy policy, sustainable agriculture, and climate policy with a focus on sustainable agriculture practices, policies, and science & technology that alleviate adverse environmental and socio-economic impacts. Managed within the Kleinman Center, this initiative aims to deliver meaningful interdisciplinary outcomes and establish a foundation for long-term impact.

Agrivoltaic Options and Designs at the New Bolton Center of the University of Pennsylvania Veterinary School
The Penn School of Veterinary Medicine is exploring the development of an agrivoltaics project combining sheep grazing for research with the production of solar electricity to help power the New Bolton Center. This digest looks at three options: ideal, low-cost, and zoning-constrained.
The Use and Potential of Agrivoltaics in the United States
Agrivoltaics combine the production of crops or livestock with the generation of electricity from solar panels. To date, the number of agrivoltaics projects has been modest, about 600 nationwide. Sheep grazing is the most popular livestock type. Vegetables and berries are the leading crops.
