Intersectional Issues in South Asia: Climate, Food and Social Insecurity

Agriculture, Climate

Across South Asia, the intersection of climate, ecological, and social stressors is creating an increasingly fragile and high-risk environment for food security. Our proposal focuses on how South Asian communities respond and adapt to climate change with a specific focus on the agricultural sector. This project will generate original data to study how climate, environmental stressors and food insecurity shape a broad range of individual and group adaptation behaviors and sometimes result in migration, violence, or wider societal disruptions. Our new datasets will be published on Wibbels’ Machine Learning for Peace project website. Project includes updates to the Perry World House Global Climate Security Atlas topics. Our team brings together two groups in distinct yet complementary research areas. PI Marinov’s expertise is in modeling and analysis of climate models and observational climate data. PI Wibbels is the Co-Director of the development lab (PDRI/DevLab).
