The Kleinman Center and the Department of Earth and Environmental Science at the School of Arts and Sciences are excited to welcome Dr. Katherine Smith, Counsellor Nuclear at the Australian Embassy and Permanent Mission to the United Nations in Vienna, Austria.

Dr. Smith provides a review of nuclear power generation around the world, including a description of the global trends in nuclear production and the reasons why different nations have retained or decided to invest in nuclear power. She discusses some of the main challenges facing the nuclear industry, and look at ways to address them via international instruments, legislation and regulation.

Katherine Smith is the director of the environmental research institute of the supervising scientist for the Australian Government. In 2016-2017, Smith was a visiting scholar at the Kleinman Center.
