Exploring Open Energy Data with the Public Utility Data Liberation Project
Event Summary
Join us for a 75-minute lunchtime overview of the open energy data landscape, featuring the Public Utility Data Liberation (PUDL) project. PUDL is a free, open-source repository of research-ready energy data that cleans and connects financial and operational power plant data from sources including FERC, EIA, and EPA.
This session will introduce students to the major federal energy data sources, explain what kinds of data these agencies collect, and highlight common challenges researchers may encounter when working with energy datasets. The presentation will also provide an introduction to PUDL and how it can support energy research by making public utility data more accessible and usable.
This will be an in-person session and is open to students and researchers interested in energy, data, policy, and research methods. No prior experience with PUDL is required. Lunch will be provided!
Please note: this is a hybrid event, with limited in-person seating available. Registration is required.
