Piyush Goyal Biography:  Contesting in the Lok Sabha Elections 2024 from Mumbai North Lok Sabha as a BJP candidate is Piyush Goyal. Currently serving as the leader of the Upper House of the Parliament having portfolios as Minister of Commerce and Industry, Minister of Textiles, Minister of Consumer Affairs, and others.   

Piyush Goyal Family 

Piyush Goyal has been a part of a family of leaders, born in Mumbai. His father Ved Prakash Goyal has served as the Union Minister for Shipping from 2001 to 2003, as well as the National Treasurer of the BJP for two decades. His mother Chandrakanta Goyal has been a three-time MLA of BJP from Maharashtra.   

He is married to an active social worker, Seema and the two are parents to Dhruv and Radhika. 

Piyush Goyal Educational Qualifications

Piyush Goyal’s academic record boasts of schooling from the Don Bosco High School, Matunga; a Bachelor’s degree in Commerce; an all-India second-rank holder Chartered Accountant and a second-rank holder in Law from Mumbai University. 

Piyush Goyal's Political Career 

With a career of 35 long years in politics, Goyal has worn many hats including the current posts in the Ministry of Commerce and Industry from 2019, the leader of the House in Rajya Sabha from 2021, and Minister of Consumer Affairs, Food & Public Distribution from 2020. He has served as the Minister of Railways from 2017 to 2021; and Minister of State for Coal, Power, New and Renewable Energy from 2014 to 2017. 

Before venturing into the field of politics, Goyal was an investment banker. He was on the board of the State Banks of India from 2001-2004 and a Government nominee in Bank of Baroda from 2002-2004.

Piyush Goyal’s Role in BJP

Goyal’s journey with the BJP started as an elected BJP candidate from Maharashtra for Rajya Sabha in 2010. The BJP has nominated him to debut in the Lok Sabha Election 2024 from the Mumbai North seat. He has held several important positions at different levels in the Bharatiya Janata Party. Like his father, he has also been the National Treasurer of the Party.  

In 2018, Goyal was honoured with the 4th Carnot Prize- a prestigious award in the Energy sector presented by the Kleinman Center for Energy Policy at the University of Pennsylvania.
