The U.S. energy storage sector has seen a major expansion in recent years. By the end of 2018, there were 33 GW of storage projects in the pipeline. FERC Order 841 and State initiatives have accelerated this deployment which has been focused on projects co-locating renewable energy and storage and large-scale storage. But the expansion of competition may drive challenges. This panel of experts reviewed the state of the energy storage sector, as well as the outlook for the coming years.

Ravi focuses on global energy storage markets and value chain analysis at Wood Mackenzie. As an industry expert, he has been quoted in various publications, including the New York Times, Wall Street Journal, Washington Post, Forbes, Bloomberg, Christian Science Monitor, Wired, and Verge. Ravi has over 8 years of experience in energy storage as a consultant, analyst, and engineer. Ravi holds a Master of International Business from the Fletcher School at Tufts University, a Master of Science in Chemical Engineering from the University of Washington, Seattle, and a Bachelor of Chemical Engineering from Institute of Chemical Technology, Mumbai, India.

Arjun Prasad Ramadevanahalli
Associate, Morgan Lewis
Arjun represents key energy industry participants in regulatory, transactional, and litigation matters, including investigations and enforcement proceedings. Arjun represents electric power, natural gas, and other energy industry participants before the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC), the US Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC), and the North American Electric Reliability Corporation (NERC). When necessary, his representations extend to court appeals.

Paul Reed
Director of Business Development & Account Management, Viridity Energy, Inc
Mr. Reed joined Viridity Energy in 2012, and has played an versatile role in the evolution from start-up company to acquisition & expansion.  Paul has been integral in the management of utility partnerships, the development of Viridity’s battery storage fleet, and the acquisition and integration of Viridity with Ormat Technologies. Paul’s background includes a Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering & MBA from the University of Delaware.  This included start-up business plan development for Vehicle-to-Grid (V2G) electric vehicle technologies, piloted at UDel.


Arthur Van Benthem
Assistant Professor, Wharton
Arthur van Benthem specializes in environmental and energy economics. He is an assistant professor of business economics and public policy at Wharton. His recent work focuses on unintended consequences of environmental legislation and the economic efficiency of energy policies. He is also a Faculty Fellow at the Kleinman Center.
