Hands-On Learning

Spring Seminar

Ben Schmitt guides students through his latest report on underwater energy infrastructure sabotage.
Senior Fellow Benjamin Schmitt shares highlights from his research on energy infrastructure security.

Our spring seminar, now in its fifth year, drew an engaged group of students for lunchtime discussions on energy-related research at Penn. This year’s topics spanned everything from air transportation to carbon markets to school climate plans. At the conclusion of the seminar, students wrote blog posts on a topic of interest for publication on the Kleinman Center website.

Student Lightning Talks

Bright Lights in the Forum

This year, six students participated in our annual “lightning talks,” TED-style talks in front of a live audience and panel of judges. PhD chemistry student Mayesha Ahmed (pictured here) won the audience award for her talk on artificial photosynthesis. VIPER student Max Huang won the judge’s award for his talk on green hydrogen.

The event was hosted by the Vagelos Integrated Program in Energy Research, Vagelos Institute for Energy Science and Technology, and Kleinman Center for Energy Policy.

Summer Fellowships

Our summer fellowships, designated for Penn students, provide valuable work experience in energy policy. This year’s fellows spent the summer at the International Energy Agency (IEA) in Paris, Energia at The Hague, Apollo Global Management in New York City, and the Philadelphia Energy Authority (PEA) here in Philly.
