Celebrating 10 Years
Ten years and still innovating. The Kleinman Center for Energy Policy proudly celebrates its 10th anniversary, marking a decade of pioneering energy research, influencing policymaking, and fostering dialogue on sustainable energy futures. Over the past ten years, the Kleinman Center has become a hub of innovation and leadership, driving meaningful change at the intersection of energy and the environment, with a focus on equity. As we look to the future, we remain committed to empowering tomorrow’s leaders and shaping a more sustainable and resilient energy future for all.
From the Director
Dear Colleagues,
We share this annual report—a story of the year’s highlights—with a sense of accomplishment for what we have achieved, gratitude to our many partners who make our work possible, and hope for what the future holds. Although these pages celebrate this year’s successes, this report also marks the 10th anniversary of the Kleinman Center for Energy Policy.
Our recent achievements are the product of a decade of mission-driven work led by our founding faculty director, Mark Hughes, who after decades of service to Penn, retired this summer. His visionary leadership at the center culminated in the successful recruitment of our three Kleinman faculty: Jen Wilcox (with Engineering), Shelley Welton (with Law), and our new faculty director, Sanya Carley (with Design).
Together, these faculty have redefined the research agenda of the center and elevated our impact in numerous ways. The study of policy design, carbon management, and institutions and governance, the core of our work, are critical to creating a just and efficient energy transition.
As you will read, our research continues to inform federal, state, and local governments, influencing public policy priorities. Our faculty, fellows, and visitors are writing, speaking, and providing commentary for national and international media outlets. And our students continue to inspire us as they participate in our classes, internships, undergraduate seminar, and certificate program.
None of this would be possible without the support of Penn leadership, fantastic colleagues, interested students, and off-campus partners who help ground our work. Thank you for the last decade!
Signed,
Cornelia Colijn, Executive Director
