Description

This position is for the City of Philadelphia’s Energy Office, which is part of the Office of Sustainability. The Energy Office serves to manage energy supply and demand for city government operations. The mission of the Energy Office is to:

  • Strategically procure cost-effective, reliable, safe, clean energy and conventional energy systems for city government
  • Promote energy conservation and efficiency within City facilities by providing education, technical expertise and analysis of energy used
  • Develop and implement projects and programs that promote the efficient use of energy and reduce the City's environmental impact

Student will be working with the City’s Energy Manager, other members of the Energy Office, the Office of Sustainability, and additional partner departments and agencies. This opportunity is ideal for learning about municipal operations, energy management, energy systems, renewable energy, sustainability, public service, program management and teamwork. Those interested in environmental studies, sustainability, economics, energy engineering, urban planning, and/or communications are particularly encouraged to apply.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Updating, auditing, and reporting on the City's energy consumption and related data in the City’s energy management database
  • Grouping facilities together in the City’s energy management database to track and report on progress made toward five-year goals
  • Gathering and reviewing information about the City’s building stock
  • Researching energy programs and energy technologies, and reporting on findings
  • Assisting in drafting and development of case studies and communication materials
  • Organizing utility accounts
  • Organizing electronic folders and files

  • Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
  • Excellent writing, research and computer skills (Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
